I haven’t really had much to say lately, mainly because I haven’t really done anything terribly interesting. I finally had a good series bowling Monday night (173, 182, 187 for a 542 series). I still don’t like the way the lanes are in that league. I guess I’ll have to adjust to it. I have gone back to absolutely hating UPS again. I placed an order at officemax.com and left their driver release form on my door. The UPS guy circled a paragraph on the form: “Under certain circumstances the driver may be unable to comply with this request. In these instances instructions will be left on how to obtain your order.” and left a UPS infonotice. I called up the 800 number, and requested that they hold it for me, since I would never be home to get it when they delivered. They said it would be available starting 8am the next day. I go out there at lunch, and of course, it’s out on the truck, and I had to go back that night to pick it up. Then, the next day, they leave two huge boxes for me from Amazon outside my door, no signature necessary (which is good, but there was no reason for them not to leave the Officemax ones). I had recently been having some problems with my iPod (headset jack became flaky) and got a warranty replacement from Apple fairly quickly. Unfortunately, this time they charged me $30 (total) for shipping it back and forth. Beats buying a new one, although that would be an excuse to get the newer, smaller model. I want a Treo 600, badly. Looks like a great device. I will have one, probably in November or December when I can do the number portability thing (my T-Mobile contract is up in July). I’ll probably switch to Sprint, as their data service is cheaper and faster than T-Mobile’s. I’ll have to see how the coverage is though… Go sign up for the Federal Do-Not-Call list. Actually, don’t do it yet. The site is swamped. You should all go support the Eldred Act (now officially called the Public Domain Enhancement Act) and reclaim the public domain. I guess that’s about it for now. I’ll try to do more interesting stuff so I have more stuff to write about. |

DO NOT under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES switch to Sprint. I apologize for the rudeness of my caps but I cannot express to you what a big mistake it will be for you to leave T-Mobile for Sprint. As a current Sprint customer and an ex-employee I can tell you that you will do nothing but regret switching to Sprint. I had my Treo 300 on the Sprint network for a few months and quite frankly it sucked.
From what I’ve heard and seen, T-Mobile’s data service is no slower than Sprint’s depending on where you are. Don’t be fooled by any Sprint marketing. Furthermore, Sprint has the worst customer service of all the big cellular providers in the U.S. You can practically call Sprint and ask them and they’ll tell you it’s the truth. Their cellular division has undergone a lot of changes in the past year and a half and nothing has gotten better.
Thanks for the warning. I’ll keep it in mind. About the data service, I’m not at all fooled by the marketing. I’ve used bandwidth testers and ping programs on both my Treo 270 and a friend’s Treo 300. PCS Vision’s latency is about half that of T-Mobile’s GRPS (500ms vs 1000ms), and the speed is about four times faster (10KB/sec vs 2.5KB/sec). These things I’m very sure of.
I’m glad it is fast in your area. Down here in Orlando it’s about the opposite. But then again, you are obviously much more interested in the data aspect of the service than I am. I’m actually considering the jump to T-Mobile, partly because of the service (it’s pretty sweet in Florida) and I’m in love with the Color Sidekick. I think that’s a nifty device and all the people I know who had the original Sidekick loved it. I’ll have to drop by the T-Mobile store and see if I can play with one for real in the near future.
I also peeped the Treo 600 and was very enthused with the new design. Though it has no screen cover, it looks much more sturdy than the Treo 300. At this point, I don’t see myself making much use of a PDA though. I would get the new Zaurus provided it could be synched with OS X but I doubt that’s going to happen. C’est la vie.
first – dont switch to Sprint – IT SUCKS (just got rid of it for ATT, t68i, love the mMode service!)
second – dont we all lust after the new 30 gig iPod? – I still have an original 5 gig model I want to sell…..i really really NEED the 30 gig model 🙂 (at least that is what i keep telling my wife)
Bowling is cool – thats how I met my wife (who is from Poland) – at a bowling alley….tres cool place to pick up girls 🙂
Hell, that DONOTCALL site has gotto be the worst .gov domain layout i’ve seen…
Yeah, sprint does suck… and good bowling score, my best is like 170 :\
