FFC/FPC Breakout Board

While working on my camera timer project (currently pretty much done, waiting for me to figure out how to put it in a case) I ended up needing to get a smaller LCD display. The one I had been using was just too big for any reasonable case I wanted to use. I found one:

LCDs

The smaller LCD comes with a flat flex cable, and a connector is needed to use it. Unfortunately, these connectors don’t work well for prototyping on a breadboard. For a while, I had soldered wires to the connector. That worked, but as soon as I tried to move anything around, wires broke off the connector and it was just generally a pain to work with. I searched around for a breakout board for them, but couldn’t find anything. So I decided to make my own.

Ordering from the least expensive place I could find to have the board made, I ended up with 40 of them. I have no need for so many of these, so I’m selling the extras. They are now available in the store. They are the only thing available at the moment. 🙂

What is the pitch on the connector. I am looking for a .5 mm breakout but this looks to be larger pitch.

Thanks,
Steve

This is 1mm pitch. There is a 0.5mm pitch one here: http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/lcd-ext-breakout-of-05mm-fpc-p-200.html?cPath=60_39, but it appears to be sold out. I’m not sure where else you might find one.

Can you confirm that the pins exit the rear of the board and connect to the breadboard that way? It is also a 30 way 1mm pitch connector?
What would be the cost of sending an unassembled kit to the UK?
Thanks

Alan — has enough demand built up yet for you to order another batch of the 1mm breakout boards? If not, would you be willing to post more information about where you had these made, and if a template file was still available? tx, …hj
