I somehow cashed in a no-tap handicap bowling tournament tonight. In fact, I took third place out of 96 for $175 on my $20 buyin. Plus, there was free food, which was really the reason I was there. I shot a 278-275-256 for an 809, plus 78 pins of handicap for an 887. The third game was really probably my best, as all but one of the strikes were natural. The first two games I had a lot of 9 counts that turned into strikes because it was no-tap. I was not expecting to make any money, even after I knew my scores. I figured some low average bowlers would shoot big games. (3)
I hit the first home run of my slow-pitch softball career tonight! A drive to the gap in center field, and I beat the throw home. It was one of only two pitches I swung at during the game. The other one, I fouled off. I only saw one called strike. The pitcher had a really hard time finding the plate, and most of them weren’t close. The HR probably would have been ball two in that AB. I finished 1-1, 3 BB, 2 RBI, 4 R. We won 12-11. It was fun. (1)
The Mets just lost 11-10 to the Phillies, to get swept in a four game series. They were behind 5-0 and tied it up, and then behind 8-5 and took a 10-8 lead, but couldn’t hold on. I was having flashbacks to Game 6 of the 1999 NLCS the whole time, and actually expecting it to end on a bases loaded walk, not a walkoff single. They’re now only 2 games up in the division, and have a series against the Braves, who they can’t beat, coming up. Not good. (2)

Lightning
There was a completely unexpected (by me) thunderstorm in Santa Barbara tonight. I was just about falling asleep when I saw a bright flash through my closed bedroom blinds. I got up to check it out, and had to get my camera out. I’ve never really tried shooting lightning before, so it was a learning experience. I don’t expect I’ll get the chance again anytime soon. I really want to do more work on this image, and a few others I got, but I’m too tired. I wanted to get something up now, though, so here it is.

Five Years
I can’t believe I’ve been writing this crap for five years now, and that there are people who actually read it. My first post was way back on August 29th, 2002. I had been planning to write some sort of real post about this, but I guess I should have done it sooner. I don’t really feel up to it, and I’m sure I won’t get to it later. So that’s all you get today.

Good Weekend
For a weekend I had planned to do absolutely nothing, I got a whole lot done.
It was the most relaxing weekend I’ve had in months.
Why can’t Billy Wagner get anyone out anymore? Dodgers have the tying run at the plate with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th. Update: Whew. Game over, Mets win. (0)
The Mets are somehow #2 in ESPN’s Power Rankings. I’m not sure how, they seem to be playing so badly lately. I guess that’s just the way it feels, but they’ve won 7 of their last 10, so it’s not actually as bad as I thought. They’re still in first place in the NL East by 5 games. (0)
I just drove home and back from work, to talk to and pay the exterminator. On the way, some idiots almost changed lanes right into me THREE separate times. The first two, I had to quickly change lanes to avoid them, and the third time I had to slam on my brakes to give them room to get in.
I hate people. (0)
