FFC/FPC Breakout Board

While working on my camera timer project (currently pretty much done, waiting for me to figure out how to put it in a case) I ended up needing to get a smaller LCD display. The one I had been using was just too big for any reasonable case I wanted to use. I found one:

LCDs

The smaller LCD comes with a flat flex cable, and a connector is needed to use it. Unfortunately, these connectors don’t work well for prototyping on a breadboard. For a while, I had soldered wires to the connector. That worked, but as soon as I tried to move anything around, wires broke off the connector and it was just generally a pain to work with. I searched around for a breakout board for them, but couldn’t find anything. So I decided to make my own.

FFC breakout board

Ordering from the least expensive place I could find to have the board made, I ended up with 40 of them. I have no need for so many of these, so I’m selling the extras. They are now available in the store. They are the only thing available at the moment. ๐Ÿ™‚

Late post today, because I’m feeling unusually unmotivated today. No particular reason for it, I don’t think.

Don’t forget to take a flyer.

Save the Clock Tower!

Save the clock tower! Save the clock tower. Mayor Wilson is sponsoring an initiative to replace that clock. Thirty years ago, lightning struck that clock tower and the clock hasn’t run since. We at the Hill Valley Preservation Society think it should be preserved exactly the way it is as part of our history and heritage.

(Here you go, lady. There’s a quarter.)

Sunset 3.0

Back to using the real camera again. I think I’m sorta getting the hang of using the flash, but now I need second one to prevent the shadow on the wall behind me. I do have another older one at home, but I’m not sure what’s involved in hooking up two flashes to the camera. I might look into it. Today’s shirt is an 8-bit sunset. I need more 8-bit shirts. I’ve thought about buying this one a few times, but never have. Maybe next time it’s in stock in my size…

Today’s shirt, obviously, is in honor of today’s inauguration. The Obama-nable President? Once again, laziness led to a crappy picture. This time, with the camera on my Blackberry.

Feeling too lazy to set up my DSLR again today, but not quite as lazy as yesterday, so today’s picture comes from my point and shoot camera. Today’s shirt is awesome. And LEGEN – wait for it – DARY!

It comes from possibly the best episode of How I Met Your Mother. If you’re not watching the show, you should be. You should absolutely watch this episode, but probably not before watching the whole series leading up to it. One of the best shows on TV.

Let's Go Mets!

Too lazy to set up the camera again today, so it’s another picture with my laptop’s webcam. Picked a shirt that’s not too unusual today, since I wasn’t going to take a good picture of it.
