Microblogging
Fairly often, I have a link or some other random short thing I want to share, but don’t feel like it’s worthy of a whole post. Some of the time, these get collected into bigger posts, but mostly they just get forgotten. Jason was talking about Twitter and Jaiku recently, and something like that seemed like almost the perfect solution. The main problem with them is I don’t like giving up control over to a third party when I can easily run whatever the hell I want on my own server. I finally got around to doing this, adding a microblogging category. For anyone reading with an RSS reader (probably most of you), these posts will just show up like normal posts. Looking at them on the actual website, though, they’ll just be a short one liner, with no title or date, and little wasted space. This way they don’t feel like they should be more than a sentence or two. The implementation was pretty much copied from PhotoMatt’s Asides, with some changes to the display style. Hopefully, this will at least get me posting more often, even if it’s just short, useless crap. Better than the long useless crap that’s usually here, I guess. |
