Terrible

I hate the Yankees as much as anyone who’s not a fan, but this is just awful.

NEW YORK — A small plane with New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle aboard crashed into a 50-story condominium tower Wednesday on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, killing at least two people — including Lidle — and raining flaming debris on sidewalks, authorities said.

Sweep!

Great game last night. Mets beat the Dodgers 9-5, to go to the NLCS. They’ll face the Cardinals or the Padres.

Possibly the best part of the game was walking up the stairs to the pavilion section in my Wright jersey. As soon as I got to the top, the whole section started the boos. It was awesome.

GO PADRES! I just bought tickets to NLCS Home Games 1 and 2 (Saturday and Sunday) in San Diego.

Update: Damn Cardinals. Looks like I have to go to St. Louis if I’m gonna see any NLCS weekend games.

Two Down…

…One to go. The Mets are up two games to none over the Dodgers in the NLDS. I guess I’m rooting for a sweep, even though that means I won’t have a game to go to on Sunday. I’ll be at Dodger Stadium Saturday, in the front row of the pavilion section in the outfield. Sunday, if necessary.

Let’s Go Mets!

The first half or so of pictures from my trip are up. More to come when I have time, which means possibly Sunday if there’s no baseball game. Gallery.

Wooo

Posting on my Treo from LAX… flight home in 25 minutes.

The Padres pulled through for me and took the division, meaning I get a Mets/Dodgers NLDS with games in LA on a weekend. As soon as I get home, it’s off to eBay for tickets…

Update: Tickets purchased. Four for each game, Saturday and Sunday (if necessary).

By Taxi to the Airport

I’m now in New York, but I head to the airport in about an hour. Then I’m out of the country for two weeks. I will probably be online and maybe even post from time to time while I’m gone. I’m really looking forward to this vacation. Maybe I’ll get some pictures up before I come back.

The Mets magic number is one. A win tonight (or a loss by the Phillies) and the Mets take the division. I’ll be on a plane when it happens… hopefully, no snakes involved.

Talk to everyone in October!

totally confused all the passing pihranas

I seem to start every other post with something along the lines of, “Wow, I haven’t posted in a while.” Yeah, I’m good at blogging.

If the Braves sweep a doubleheader from Philly, and the Mets beat the Marlins today, the Mets clinch the division. If not, it’ll happen in the next couple of days anyway. At least I hope it will, I want it to happen before I leave the country. I’m also rooting for the Dodgers to take the wild card, not win the NL West, so the Mets will play them in the first round (it could happen if the Dodgers win the division, wild card comes out of the East, and Cards finish with a better record than LA, too, but it’s easier if the Dodgers just get the wild card). If that does happen, home games one (and two, if necessary) at Dodger Stadium will be a Saturday and Sunday, and I will be there for sure. Assuming the Mets finish with the best record in the NL (which they will), it would mean I’d get to see them in LA.

Update: The Phillies beat Atlanta in the first game, so no clinch today. Oh well.

I’m going on vacation today, flying redeye to JFK tonight, and then Friday out of New York to Geneva, Switzerland. I’m going to a wedding there Saturday and Sunday with my parents, and then spending the next two weeks driving around with my father and our cameras. Hopefully, there will be a lot of nice stuff in the gallery shortly after I return. Even if I don’t, it will still be a great time and I’m sure my father will get some nice shots.

I’ve slowly been getting back into poker. Very slowly. Played a $9k guarantee at FTP last week, and went out a bit short of the money. Played some of the new cap NL games there, too. Not seriously, though. I played the .05/.10 with a $3 cap with Drizz, both of us at the table with over $1000. Due to the cap per hand, there’s no maximum buyin. The very first hand I got dealt the hammer and pushed “all-in” for $3. Called in two places, by some random hand and 66. A 7 on the turn and I stack two players. Fun game. I’ve also been playing the 1/2 HORSE at Stars, on Wil‘s suggestion, and it really is a goldmine. Lots of action, bad players, and of course bad beats. Very profitable. I guess it helps that the very first hand (o8) I got dealt JJxx on my posted blind, saw a final board of JT447, and was against TTxx and J4xx. $50 profit on the first hand, at 1/2. I also scooped a stud8 hand with just a pair of fives, no low, after betting my four low/four flush draw all the way to seventh street. I clicked check/fold on seventh, but it checked through. He had a pair of fours.

I have also been spending a lot (too much? nah) time playing Dead Rising. I finished 72 hour mode, and beat overtime without getting knocked out, so I’ve seen the true ending. Things left for me to do are a few achievements in 72 hour mode (saint, transmissionary, full set, psycho collector), and survive in Infinity mode for 7 days. I don’t know when I’ll get around to doing those things. I think it’s about time I move on to another game. Dead Rising is worth owning an Xbox 360 for, though.

I guess that’s it for now. In two hours, I leave for the airport.

Sweep!

The Mets finished off a sweep of Atlanta today with a 10-6 win. Carlos Beltran (MVP!) had another two-homer game, including his third grand slam of the month. 13.5 games up over second place Philadelphia, who just traded Abreu and appear to be giving up for the season. As they should.

Everyone go congratulate Ryan for successfully surviving day one of the WSOP Main Event. He did more than just that, he finished the day with 40k in chips. My 0.5% of him is looking good so far.

Good luck to Zeem who starts his day one tomorrow.

Sorry for the complete lack of content here, I’ve been wasting all my time playing Guitar Hero, so I have nothing interesting to talk about.

Royal Flush!

I haven’t been playing much poker lately, but I did hit my first ever royal flush last night. It came in on the river, playing 2/4 NL, and I checked.

The pot was $20, and my opponent pushed for over $400! I had to double-check the board to make sure I actually had the hand I thought I did, and then called.

And we chopped.

1393

I ended up losing more than I am used to in that game, but less than a buy-in. My bankroll can handle 2/4 NL, I think, but I’m still working on wrapping my head around it.

The Mets are still kicking ass in the NL East. After the win last night, they now have a 7.5 game lead over the second place Phillies, and an 11 game lead over Atlanta. I went to two games last week, against the Dodgers, the first and last game of a three game series. I got to see them win both, though they lost the one in the middle. I need to get to more baseball games, regardless of the teams playing. One of the few problems with Santa Barbara is the distance to the closest major league baseball team. Too damn far.

Most of my free time lately has been spent playing Guitar Hero. After the game last Monday, I played it for the first time at a friend’s place. After one song, I was hooked, and ordered it from his Amazon on his laptop. Tuesday at work, I got impatient, and ordered it from Circuit City for in-store pickup, with plans to return the one I would get from Amazon later in the week. I don’t know if I will, though, or if I’ll just keep the guitar so I have a second one.

A little bit of searching on the web found two hacks for making the guitar wireless. This one looks like a lot of work, and doesn’t mention anything about charging the batteries. I was initially planning to try that, but then found this. Definitely looks like less work, and has the added benefit of being able to charge through the PS2’s USB port. I’ve ordered all the necessary parts, and should hopefully get everything I need to do it by next week.

“I will rock your face!” —Err

Just a Guy Made of Dots and Lines

“Hey metsfan, remember when you used to be a blogger?”
Shane Nickerson

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? No real reason for that, just no motivation.

I’ve started playing poker again a decent amount lately at suomikasinot, mostly 1/2 NL at FTP. After about a week and a half, and some huge swings, I’m slightly above where I started. That’s good, I guess, seeing as my game was rusty and I was playing really terribly the first few days of it. Still making some donkey moves, though. Played a few tournaments as well, with not much to show for it. One cash, for not even 1.5x my buyin, and 5% of a few of Ryan‘s small cashes. Swaps are good, especially with players who are better than I am.

The baseball season is still progressing nicely, with the Mets still holding on to first place, though not as far ahead as I’d like them to be. The backend of the starting rotation is a mess, and we need Brian Bannister to come back. Then we need a 5th starter as well. I think the team is better off with Victor Zambrano not pitching than with him, but someone needs to fill that spot and it isn’t going to be Jose Lima for the rest of the season. Billy Wagner needs to get himself together, too. Tonight’s game against the Phillies will be on INHD, and they apparently have three games a week now, which is nice. Baseball in high-definition is so much better than not, I don’t know how I can still stand to watch it that way anymore.

I’m finally going to get myself to a baseball game in a couple of weeks, going to both the Monday night and Wednesday night games when the Mets are in LA playing the Dodgers. For the first game, I went crazy with tickets and will be sitting just past first base, the second row from the field. That should be a lot of fun, and you’ll be able to see me on TV getting hit in the head by a foul ball. Or catching it, maybe.

My fantasy team seems like it might actually be coming together after making two crucial trades for starting pitching. I dealt Lyle Overbay, who was rotting on my bench behind Nick Johnson (and Nomar), for Mike Maroth and Tyler Walker, and then traded Chase Utley for Chris Carpenter. I won’t miss Overbay at all, but losing Utley will hurt my offense significantly. Still, I believe my offense is strong enough to do without him, and my pitching is now no longer a weak point. During a recent discussion with a friend who’s into online gaming, I stumbled upon an interesting strategy while browsing a 해외 홀덤사이트. The insights I gained there actually helped me reevaluate my fantasy team’s roster, particularly in balancing my pitching and hitting strengths. Plus, I get Gagne back soon, giving me a third closer, which should solidify my bullpen.

There’s a three-day weekend for Memorial day coming up, so I’m heading back to the east coast to see my nephew (and the rest of my family) again. I’m not looking forward to the actual traveling part of the trip, but it should be a fun weekend. Too bad the Mets are on the road.

And, lastly:
